Xena & Gabrielle's Comments on Episode 109

Plot: Gus gets sick and has to be taken to the hospital. Melanie is not allowed into the emergency room because she has no legal relationship with Gus. Brian shows up and is allowed because is the legal father. Melanie & Lindsay approach Brian about signing over his parental rights to Gus, which he agree to until Justin talks him out of it.

Xena's Comments: Well, if this one didn't break your heart, I'm not sure what would. Linsday looking to Melanie to help get the doctor was a beautiful scene. I felt the scene at the hospital was very realistic. Then, Brian agreeing to sign over his parental rights, only to change his mind at the last minute, also broke my heart. Now, the sex scene is really hot. It was so great to see an episode where Melanie & Lindsay were the main focus. Michelle's scene in the hospital waiting room showed a real understanding of her character. I almost cried when Brian refuses to sign the paperwork after Melanie & Lindsay look so forward to it.

Gabrielle's Comments: Finally, some good sex and real issues!! The reality of this episode is extremely upsetting. Gus becomes ill and needs to go to the emergency room. Melanie is not allowed into the examination room with Gus and Lindsay because she is not the biological mother and Brian never signed over his parental rights to her. Homophobia at the hospital makes a tense moment for Mama Mel worse. Gus regains his health and Lindsay and Melanie have a wonderful love scene to celebrate that Brian is coming over the following day to sign over his parental rights to Mel. At the end of the episode Melanie, Lindsay, and Brian sit down to sign the paperwork. Sit down for the shocker, in the end Brian refuses to sign the papers and our gal Mel is unceremoniously screwed once again by Brian. TO ALL WHO READ THIS, REMEMBER TO HAVE LEGAL DOCUMENTS SET UP IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY FOR THE SECURITY OF YOUR PARTNER AND CHILDREN!!!
