Who Are We? Simply put, we are a couple of dykes living in the Washington DC Metro area who wanted to create a web site with list of events, resources, bars, etc. that are lesbian run or lesbian friendly in this area. We recently moved to the area and LOVE IT (well one of us loves it and the other has developed a slight fondness for the area :). However, when we first arrived in our nation's capital we were at a loss for how to access the lesbian community. After talking with people who have lived here for a while, we found that there is a rich lesbian community that offers much to many. The problem with accessing that community was that you needed a few tips to point you towards "where the dykes are." Even many of the lesbians we talked with who have lived here for a long time, didn't know about all the different events that are happening in this area.

Fortunately, we are both basketball fans and quickly learned that most of the dykes in this town are HUGE MYSTICS FANS (except one person in our house who deliriously thinks that some day the NY Liberty will win the WNBA championship.) The point of the matter is we wanted to create a place on-line for all of us to share information about the DC lesbian community. We are doing this for fun (i.e. using our free time and spending our own money.) Our goal is to try to disseminate lesbian information with a DC focus as we come across it.

Throughout the web site you will come across commentaries and reviews. We thought it would be important to have a way to distinguish us apart so the reader would know who to contact with feedback. We decided to use the names Xena and Gabrielle, since we met over our love of the show Xena: Warrior Princess (that is whole other story that we hope to post in the near future). There was no squabble over who got to use which name. Xena is the technical brains behind this web site. She has chosen to use her technical prowess for good instead of evil. Gabrielle is as you would expect, pretty wordy and a devoted partner of Xena. After several attempts to learn more about technology, Xena felt it best that Gabrielle stick to the scribe role. We will see how this plays out since Gabrielle does know how to FTP into the server…
