Mystics
Player And Fan Comments
Here
are some comments Mystics4Ever
received from players and fans.
Stacy
Dales-Schuman:
"Our fans are awesome. Playing for the Mystics is a lot of
fun! It is also tiring, though. Right now I really do not have
much to say, just that we had a great season and worked together."
Coco
Miller (many thanks to Stacey for obtaining Coco's comments
for me):
"We had a wonderful season. We are lucky to say we got as
far as we did, even if we weren't the Eastern conference champs.
We have our fans to thank. So thank you so much for everything!"
Chamique
Holdsclaw (these comments were taken from a mailing sent
with a team photo):
"As we reflect on our season, there is one phrase that we
heard over and over that describes this year - "the Mystics
have the best fans in the WNBA." As you have proven year
after year, we are fortunate to have the most loyal and dedicated
fans in the League and we're delighted that this year we were
able to give you a preview of great things to come.
Words can't explain the rush we felt when we won the two home
playoff games at MCI Center against Charlotte and New York. You
never stopped cheering and pushing us on. It was a great feeling
that will be hard to forget. Of course, we got another thrill
when we saw all the Mystics fans cheering and waving signs in
full force when we traveled to Charlotte and New York for the
playoffs. We could not believe the support we had - it was both
awesome and inspiring.
On behalf of the Mystics, I would like to say thank you for making
this season our most memorable. I know you will continue to support
us as we shoot for the WNBA Championship in 2003."

"I was soooo mad when the Mystics lost in the playoffs but
I was mad at the Liberty for winning.. not at the Mystics for
losing. The Mystics played a great game, though!! And they're
lucky to be able to say they got as far as they did. Really all
I have to say is that Coco deserved the Most Improved Player award,
and that Stacey could have gotten rookie of the year, but mostly..
I TRULY do believe that Chamique would have been the MVP if she
hadn't suffered all those injuries."

"COCO ROCKS!!! MURRIEL RULES!!! MARIANNE and the MYSTICS
are MAGICAL!!! Our Ladies have parted the Mysts of the WNBA and
have shown the world we will prevail. This year was a remarkable
year and beating NY in game one of the playoffs was just the platform
we needed to launch a "fan attack." I have never seen
nor felt such energy as I did that night. It was exhilarating..
pulsating.. intense. It truly was Magical!
OK, so we went to NY and didn't win the conference. That didn't
make us losers. If we were losers, do you think we would have
gotten the ATTENDANCE BANNER back?? We are the greatest fans in
the world because we have a winning team and a winning coach who
have the undisputed desire that makes them WINNERS! Our Mystics
accomplished something far greater this year than winning the
conference. They won our hearts... forever!! We LOVE our MYSTICS!!!
Susan in College Park, MD wrote:
"I played golf the other day with someone who said
she is a big Mystics fan and loves to watch them every time they're
on TV. I asked her if she has ever been to a Mystics game and
she explained that she doesn't need to because she can see what
there is to see on TV. She has no idea of the fun and excitement
she is missing by not attending the games!! The excitement at
the games is electric! As they dim the lights before the game
to introduce our Mystics, you can feel the intensity level start
to rise as we stand and cheer OUR TEAM! There is nothing like
being able to scream LUUUUUZZZZZ as Helen throws up her arms after
making another 3-pointer! Or yelling as loud as we can as Stacey
steals the ball and passes it downcourt for an easy basket! Or
watching in amazement as Chamique makes an impossible basket while
falling backwards! Or screaming as Vicky blocks a shot! Or cheering
for Annie and Murriel who consistantly make those hustle plays!
And then there are the many things that you just don't see on
TV (because they take place while the TV audience is watching
commercials or listening to commentators), such as the very entertaining
and talented Mystics Mayhem, the musical chairs with kids competing
for that last chair, the antics of Charm (the BEST WNBA mascot
in my opinion), the half-time entertainment, and much, much more.
Once a fan sees a game in person, that fan will be "hooked"
and will be back for more games.
The huge audiences at the Mystics games, which averaged over 16,000
per game, are unusual too, about 70% female, and very diverse.
There are women with very small children sitting next to older
couples, little girls wearing basketball jerseys sitting next
to families with little boys... and everywhere, there are gay
women and no one stares or makes comments if they hold hands while
walking around the MCI Center. There are also occasional celebrities
in attendance such as Mia Hamm, Pat Summitt, players from the
Wizards, and more. So if you are one of those fans who hasn't
been to a live game, come out next year and join us!! You'll be
glad you did!!"
Kathy in Rockville, MD wrote:
"I love our Mystics! We have the best players and
fans in the WNBA. I can't wait until next year because the Mystics
will be even better and the fans will be even louder. Thank you,
Mystics, for giving us a WONDERFUL year!!!"
Linda in Caytonsville, MD wrote:
"NO, NO, NO.... say it isn't so, Vicky!!!!!!! Please
don't retire!! We love you!!!"
Penny
from Falls Church wrote:
"Murriel Page is my favorite player because she comes to
play every game. She is in there battling, snatching down rebounds
and hitting the short jumper. She doesn't cry or complain and
just does her job and looks like she enjoys doing it. Murriel
is a real trooper and I enjoy watching her play."
Kathy
from Baltimore submitted the following comments after attending
the Cleveland Rockers/Mystics game on June 23rd:
"Asjha had a great game. Her 10 points all seemed to come
just when we needed them to stay in the game.
Coco was also great. When she was on the floor, she looked like
the leader. She played with confidence and came up with the ball
at key times to keep us in the game.
Chamique and Stacey came through when we needed them to close
the deal. It was a team effort and exciting to watch.
They need to get the old and tired NY Liberty off the TV and put
Mystics basketball on prime time! The Mystics are playing basketball
like the future of the WNBA. If you saw New York vs Charlotte
on TV on June 16th (with a half-time score of 19-21), that was
the WNBA of the past!"
Sally
of Manassas wrote this after attending her first Mystics game:
"I've been to one Mystics game and I'm hooked - I'd love
to see another game. The crowd was very involved and that was
neat. I liked that the coach encouraged the fans to make noise."
Renee
of Beltsville had some eloquent and enthusiastic comments:
"Murriel Page is my forever forward... the prowness of a
lioness, the agility of a gazelle, the strike of a viper. Let
her sting!
Coco Miller is a guarding Goddess.. a gnat to the opposition...
the epitome of annoying.. to the other team! Go Coco, Go Coco,
Go Coco!
Helen Luz is LLUUUUZZZZZ ..... swoosh!
Marianne Stanley is the Supreme One who has finally landed in
Oz to make the Mystics MAGICAL! Let the mists clear on the court...
let the ladies show that we are here to play... and here to stay!
Now shake hands and kick butt!!!"
