Mystics 4 Ever LogoMystics Play Liberty In Conference Finals

With a sweep of the Charlotte Sting, the Mystics reached the second round of the WNBA Playoffs and they will play the New York Liberty. The first game is at home on Thursday, August 22nd at 8PM, and we need to get every possible Mystics fan into the MCI Center that night to cheer on the Mystics and drown out those Liberty fans who will be sure to show up in force. A win on Thursday will give the Mystics a big edge going into the remaining two games of the series (if two more are necessary) which will be played in New York.

The Mystics were fantastic in the first round of the playoffs. They beat the Charlotte Sting in the MCI Center on August 15th, 74-62. In that game, Chamique Holdsclaw had 26 points and 13 rebounds, Coco Miller had 12 points and 5 rebounds, Vicky Bullett had 12 points and 3 rebounds, and Annie Burgess had 8 assists! In the second game, played in Charlotte on August 17th, the Mystics won 62-59. Coco was the star of that game with 21 points but it was a team effort with Chamique scoring 15 points with 11 rebounds, Annie with 7 assists, and Stacey Dales-Schuman putting in 12 points and having 6 assists. By sweeping Charlotte and thus avoiding a third playoff game on the 20th, the Mystics were able to give themselves a few days of much-needed rest. This team is playing like they were in the beginning of the season, just going out and shooting the ball and seeming to have fun! And most importantly winning!! If the Mystics continue to play "Mystics basketball," they can beat the Liberty in this series!

NOTE: Congratulations to Mystics Head Coach Marianne Stanley who was honored as the WNBA Coach of the Year and to guard Coco Miller who was named the WNBA's Most Improved Player of the Year! Both honors are well deserved!!
