My Two Loves - (1986) - In 1986, this was a pretty groundbreaking movie. Mariette Hartley plays a widow who tries to get her life back together. After getting a new job and trying to start life over again, she starts to date her late husband's business partner. Confused by her life, she befriends a lesbian coworker played by Lynn Redgrave. She finds herself drawn to her new friend and the two women explore a relationship. As the title suggests, she struggles between her two loves. Not the best lesbian movie ever made, but again, a real groundbreaking film at the time. This is not currently available on DVD or VHS, but does replay on TV once in a while. (X)

A Question of Love - (1978) - Groundbreaking drama which aired on television In 1978. Jane Alexander and Gina Rowlands, play a lesbian couple happily sharing a home and Rowlands children. When the oldest son moves in with his father, the father files for custody of the other children. It is interesting to note that there was almost no backlash when this film first aired. The sad part of this film is that not much as changed in over 22 years. Nancy McKeon also has a guest role in this film. This is not currently available on DVD or VHS, but does replay on TV once in a while. (X)

"Serving In Silence" LogoServing in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story - (1995) - Cammermeyer had served in the Army for over 20 years, was a Col. in the Reserves, worked in a VA hospital and was going for her PhD. She was also a lesbian. A fact that had never been something she gave much thought too before she decides to upgrade her security clearance. When the investigator asked if she had ever had an homosexual relationships, she tells the truth. The Army then begins proceedings to discharge her. This begins a fight against the militaries policy and brings the subject to national attention. Glenn Close is wonderful in the lead role. Judy Davis is also outstanding as Cammermeryer's lover. Only available on Video. (X)

The Truth About JaneThe Truth About Jane - (2000) - Jane is a high student who develops an intense friendship with another girl and discovers her true sexuality. Stockard Channing is wonderful (as always) as Jane's unaccepting mother, who struggles to deal with her daughters revelation that she is a lesbian. This film was made for Lifetime Television. Visit the Official Website. This movie was released on video and DVD on 4/9/02. (G)
Two Mother's For Zachary - (1996) - A grandmother decides to sue her lesbian daughter for custody of her grandson on the grounds that her daughter is an unfit mother because of her lesbian relationship. What Makes A Family - (2001) - Brooke Shields, Cherry Jones, Anne Meara, and Al Waxman star in this movie based on a true story about Janine Nielssen and Sandy Cataldi. Brooke Shields portrays Janine, a woman who believes she has finally found happiness with a loving woman. She and her lesbian partner, Sandy Cataldi (played by Cherry Jones) choose to share and expand their family by having a child. Complications arise when Sandy, the birth mother, becomes ill and passes away five years later. The Cataldi parents, who up until then had been supportive of Sandy and Janine's family, scheme to apply for custody behind Shields' back. Questions of "What Makes a Family" ensues. This movie is a tear jerker and a thinker. The movie is well done and produced by Barbra Streisand and Whoopi Goldberg. This film was made for Lifetime Television.
