Not Technically Lesbian Movies

Here are a few movies that aren't lesbian, but where there is a lesbian scene or a lesbian character who isn't the star. All of these films are available on VHS & DVD.

Best in Show - This movie is brought to you by the same gang that made "mockumentaries" such as Spinal Tap famous. This hilarious film pokes fun at the stuffy world of dog shows. The movie chronicles the preparation of several dogs and their wildly different owners for the big event. One gay male couple and surprise lesbian couple steal some of the funniest scenes in the movie. It is important to remember that this type of film requires more adlib than scripted material for the actors to use. Kudos to all of the cast members for their outstanding creativity and humor. This type of comedy does not appeal to everyone, but I LOVE IT!! In the 1980s Spinal Tap and West Side Story were the first two movies I ever purchased on VHS (wow am I sharing a bit too much about myself...), so you can tell I am a HUGE fan of this type of comedy. Best in Show takes the time to let the viewer get to know the characters and is not as over the top outrageous as Spinal Tap. I think that works because of the nature of what is being spoofed. Again, this is not a lesbian focused movie but there are lesbian characters who bring a lot to the table. Visit the Official Website. (G)

Cruel Intentions - (1999) - This movie has highly erotic overtones throughout. It is the story of two ultra-rich stepsiblings in a sexy tale of seduction, revenge and conquest. While the movie does not have a specific lesbian theme or storyline, no one will want to miss the deliciously wet kiss between Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair. "Election" logo Election - (1999) - I am totally biased about this comedy ladies...Election is one of my favorite movies of all time. I completely LAUGH OUT LOUD every time I pop this one into my DVD player. Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick are phenomenal as arch enemies. However, the reason this movie is being reviewed here is because of the character Tammy Metzler played by Jessica Campbell. She plays the scene stealing role of lesbian younger sister of the high school's star football player. Things get sticky when her girlfriend starts dating Tammy's brother Paul to prove that she is NOT a lesbian. The following is a classic quote from Tammy "It's not like I'm a lesbian or anything. I'm attracted to the person. It's just that all the people I've been attracted to happen to be girls." Tammy honey, I could not agree more! (G)

A Girl Thing - (2001) - This Showtime mini-series revolves around a therapist (played by Stockard Channing) and the patients she sees. In the "lesbian storyline", Kate Capshaw stars as a woman who falls for a friend, played by Elle Macpherson, who is an out lesbian. Confused by the relationship, and if she can actually be in a lesbian relationship, she talks things out with her therapist.
