Review
of
Melissa Etheridge "The Truth Is...My Life In Love
and Music"
by Gabrielle
"The
Truth is
My Life in Love and Music" by Melissa Etheridge
is a must read for this summer. Mind you, it should take you very
little time to get through the book. While it is approximately
220 pages long, it is a breeze to complete. That is not meant
to imply that it is not a satisfying experience for old and new
fans alike. Beyond the opportunity to gain an intimate look at
the life of Rock 'N Roll's reigning queen, the book provides the
extra bonus of quality photos throughout.
My
reaction to the content of the book? Well, I am first trying to
digest the fact that my mother just came out to me this weekend
as
a HUGE Melissa Etheridge fan. I recently celebrated a birthday
(please do not make me think about which one. I am starting to
forget how to count that high
) and my mother gave me thirty
dollars that I could only spend on a book. I have been hunting
for a copy of "The Truth is
" since it was released
on June 19, but had had no luck. While visiting my mother, I found
the book in a B. Daltons and snapped it up. Since my mother was
curious about which book I selected, I showed her what I purchased.
My partner and I did not think she would know who Melissa was.
Not only did she know who Melissa Etheridge was, but she mentioned
that she was a fan and had been following her exploits. This revelation
has driven my partner to buy the entire Melissa Etheridge collection
on CD for her PFLAG mother-in-law. Before I had even cracked open
the book, my family began bonding over Melissa Etheridge.
Back to the
book
My first reaction was simply WOW!! My next reaction
was "When is Julie's book coming out?" Let's just say
that their relationship was not what we had all hoped it would
be for our favorite rocker. My partner always has said to me that
she hoped that what Melissa wrote about in her songs never really
happened to her because if it was autobiographical this woman
has had her fill of heartache. Let's just say Melissa has not
had an easy road on the intimacy highway.
The point
of all of this is be prepared to be shocked by certain revelations.
Melissa puts her heart and soul into all of her creative endeavors
and in typical fashion her autobiography is no different. Be forewarned,
that you will never listen to your favorite Melissa songs the
same way again.
I do not want
to spoil the book for you, however there I some issues I feel
compelled to vent about. Click
here to read more but be warned that it contains spoilers.
